We looked for leaders…
We looked for those we could call upon
when we succumbed to weakness.
We were drawn to individuals who exuded talent
and we reviled any trace of cowardice.
We sought out those who had the personalities
to bring us FORWARD, rather than mentalities
that would hold us BACK.
We were attracted to individuals who were more
different from us than alike, believing each new
link would add to our depth.
We demanded heart and were never concerned with numbers.
We fought at times with each other… but were always united in public.
Knowing true relationships are forged stronger when subjected to
periodic struggle rather than if never tested at all.
We resisted the idea of mediocrity and strove to innovate.
Now, many said - “We’ll see how long this will last…”
Our response was -
If it dies now, it will die strong.
