The Nehru Initiative
Did you know…
…School budgets are tied to property taxes. Therefore schools in poor neighborhoods receive significantly less funding per student when compared to more affluent neighborhoods….
…Nearly ¾ of schools nationwide reported needing repairs, renovation, or modernization to be in good condition….
…17 of the nation’s 50 largest inner cities have high-school graduation rates below 50%….
…..31% of family heads without a high-school diploma, lead a family below the poverty line at a staggeringly low $21,000 or less – well below the $34,000 needed for basic needs for a family of four…
The Nehru Initiative is a nationwide campaign to promote education advocacy and school restoration. Jawaharlal Nehru had a vision to empower his young nation through education – the key to social mobility. In his 1961 letter to his cabinet, he laid the foundations of his vision and said “Empower through Education, Not Reservation” when stating how to uplift those most in need. Nehru went on to create an education system built on his vision, creating extraordinary institutions such as the world-renowned Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
Here in the 21st Century, in the United States – we will do the same. Rebuild schools, advocate for education, and mentor the youth to new heights. Under this initiative, individuals have begun to create tutoring programs, restoration events for schools, education panels, and much more to promote education in our communities. It is our vision to empower the next generation of youth with an asset that can never be taken from them – education.
This project was created internally through our organization, but has visions to grow into something grander. We envision the Nehru Initiative to ultimately lead campaigns to build schools nationwide, influence policies, and partner with some of the strongest non-profits in our nation.
Join us nationwide as we serve in our local communities and protect what has always made America Great –Opportunity.
Build a school, guide a child, Save a generation.

“They deserve help but, even so, I dislike any kind of reservation, more particularly in service. I react strongly against anything which leads to inefficiency and second-rate standards. I want my country to be a first class country in everything. The moment we encourage the second-rate, we are lost.“- Nehru, 1961 letter to his cabinet
